Architectural accessibility 

The “Wieliczka” Salt Mine is a historic site. This means that the underground excavations and the core part of the surface buildings are located within a heritage protection zone, which affects both their accessibility and the possibility of introducing accessibility-related adaptations.


Company’s office at St Kinga’s Park

The company’s registered office is located at St Kinga’s Park. The registered office is occupied principally by the company’s administrative staff.

The office space is adapted to the needs of employees, ergonomic and accessible to the greatest extent. Neither the entrance to the company’s office building nor floor entrances are accessible for persons with physical disabilities. The office building offers no parking spaces for people with disabilities. There is no sign language interpreter or online interpreter service available in the building.

Tourist service area, Daniłowicza 10, Wieliczka

Daniłowicz Shaft building – Daniłowicza 10 (tourist entrance)

  1. The parking lot on Dembowskiego Street has 2 designated parking spaces for persons with disabilities, available free of charge. The parking lot in the immediate vicinity of the Daniłowicz Shaft has 2 designated and marked parking spaces for persons with disabilities, available free of charge.
  2. There are driveways for wheelchairs users near the main entrance to the Daniłowicz Shaft building. It is also possible to access the Tourist Route entrance with a wheelchair from the back of the building.
  3. The entrance to the building is properly marked and lit.



Information Building, Daniłowicza 10 (information and booking)

  1. The information building is located near the entrance to the Daniłowicz Shaft area. For persons with physical disabilities, there is a ramp next to the building that allows them to freely enter the Daniłowicz Shaft area. The open space provides easy access, and wheelchairs users can enter the information building. The entrance is well lit. Doors and passageways without sills.
  2. The entrance doors to the building are made of glass, 120 cm wide, one-winged. Nearby steps are contrast-marked. Possible wheelchair access without using stairs.
  3. Entering the building with an assistance dog or a guide dog for blind or visually impaired persons is permitted.
  4. There are no induction loops in the building. There are no Braille labels nor contrast markings or enlarged print for blind or visually impaired persons.
  5. No online Polish Sign Language (PJM) interpreter is available in the building.
  6. Facilities: Tourists with disabilities may enter the tour that has been appropriately adapted to their needs (subject to prior reservation). The number of participants is fixed and dependent on the degree and type of visitors’ disability of the visitors.
  7. A person with a disability (provided a valid document attesting the disability has been produced) and their guardian are entitled to receive discounted tickets for the tour.

The “Wieliczka” Salt Mine, Tourist Route, Daniłowicza 10

  1. The mine elevator in the Daniłowicz Shaft allows the transport of wheelchairs (elevator entrance width – 55 centimetres).
  2. The tourist route in the mine (17th – 20th century) is open to persons of all ages. A substantial part thereof has also been adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities. Considering there are many surface sites without such facilities, an underground site, so frequently visited by tourists, adapted to the needs of persons with varying degrees of disability is unique on a global scale.
  3. The mine is a mining facility, where due to the geological, mining and technical conditions such measures are extremely difficult to implement. They were possible thanks to the support received from the State Fund of Persons with Disabilities (in the period from 1999 till 2003).
  4. Thanks to the mining works that have been carried out, it is possible to traverse a part of the Tourist Route in wheelchairs, with additional facilities including a panoramic elevator and movable lifting platforms, which allow moving between levels II upper and II lower.
  5. All toilets on the route are marked and adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities.
  6. In the underground section, certain solutions suited for other groups of persons with special needs are provided.
  7. Visually impaired persons may be accompanied by an assistance dog or a guide dog for blind or visually impaired persons – provided the staff has been notified in advance.

The “Wieliczka” Salt Mine, Miners’ Route, Regis Shaft

  1. The Miners’ Route, due to its specific nature (an active expedition with tasks, hiking by the light of mining flashlights) and its mining character is not available for persons with disabilities.
  2. On the other hand, persons with physical disabilities have the opportunity to use the Regis Shaft to go down directly to level III of the mine (at the depth of 135 metres underground) and to visit the Cracow Saltworks Museum.

The “Wieliczka” Salt Mine Graduation Tower, St Kinga’s Park

The entire Graduation Tower facility, with the exception of the entrance to the platforms and observation tower, is adapted to the needs of persons with physical disabilities. It is also accessible by persons with other types of disabilities
